This piece is inspired by sword XII.2 in Ewart Oakeshott's Records of the Medieval Sword. Oakeshott describes this as a late Viking age design dating between 950 and 1000.
Our interpretation is based off of a Hanwei Tinker single hand blade (Early Medieval Single Hander). The blade has been sharpened, as the factory edge was quite dull. The fittings are mild steel with a satin finish. The hilt is secured via a nut that has been rounded to resemble a peen block.
Both the scabbard and grip feature poplar wood cores wrapped in soft brown leather. The scabbard also features a red oak strap bridge finished with boiled linseed oil.
