Scramaseax $75

The scramaseax, or seax, was a knife used throughout Europe from the 7th to 11th centuries.  This seax was entirely produced in the shop from scratch.  The blade is 1095 high-carbon steel with a bright, nearly mirror polish.  The fittings are mild steel with a satin polish, and the grip is made of birch with a burned  finish.  The sheath is made of vegetable-tanned leather with decorative knotwork and a dark red color.

Oakeshott Type XII $250

This piece was built using a Hanwei/Tinker Early Medieval Single Hand blade, a heavy cutting style classified by Ewart Oakeshott as the type XII.  The hilt is similar to several pieces from the 11th and 12th centuries, with a straight tapered guard and "cocked hat" pommel.  The blade is sharpened and features the factory satin finish.  The hilt fittings are made of mild steel and have a mirror finish, secured via a recessed nut in the pommel.  The wood-core grip and scabbard feature brown leather wraps with risers, and the scabbard includes an intergrated belt of black leather.
